Hello all, With the recent addition of the chat filter in flood. I thought I would address some issues I have with it so that we all can be on the same page. 1: Why was it implemented in the first place? 2: Why does only the flood server have a chat filter? 3: Is flood now "Family Friendly", meaning we don't tolerate minor things like swearing? 4: If the above statement is true, why has Devinity only implemented this feature to flood? 5: Is Devinity going to start cracking down on people on the forums for swearing? 6: The chat filter does and will not work. People deliberately get around it easy. IE: Special characters are a thing. I have a lot more questions and concerns. I will address them later so I don't lose people who have TLDR syndrome.
1) The chatfilter is the least prioritized area we wanted to censor, with playernames and teamnames being the most important ones. We don't only censor because we want it "Family Friendly" as you so nicely call it, but also because people are extremely rude and offensive with hatespeech and what not. 2) Who cares about jailbreak. 3) You can disable in settings if you tolerate it, it's on by default because otherwise people wouldn't know it existed. 4) Who cares about jailbreak. 5) As said, we don't care that much about swearing, what we care about is offensive and hateful speech, which has always been heavily restricted on the forums. 6) Not with that attitude. It's in phase one and we'll upgrade it to a working point.
I realized this after I tried to type Tardis in the chat talking about Doctor Who, and I got ****is. Also, thank you for notifying me I can turn it off in settings.
There was an issue brought up by a player, what if your Steam name has "dick" in it but it wasn't meant to offend anyone, just that it was the persons steam name should we really make someone change their name to play on our servers?
I thought the idea was that we filter actually offensive words like "N*****" or "F*****", why the fuck are you guys filtering swears, devinity has always allowed cursing and it's not against the rules. What's the actual point, it'll put normal people off the server because they'll come on and be like this is a bitch server more than it'll encourage "sensitive" people.
The blacklist we used was a direct copy of the blacklist we use for Jailbreak RP names, but I realise now that it should probably be eased abit.
Yeah I've had people not be able to join the game because their name has a censored word in it but that word was just part of a larger word. I'd say let's take it off actual names and leave it for team names and chat.
