This would involve either reinventing the Tower Event or simply building off of the mechanics of that event to make it more playable and enjoyable for everyone. Let's start off with the problems with the Tower event as it is now.

    • Players are generally confused on how to build a tower using the gravity gun.
    • Balancing your tower can be a problem with most props.
    • Staff (and vip?) can use the weld tool to weld props to the wall.
    • Instructions unclear, dick stuck in ceiling fan.
I think the main issue is taking away the fun of building something with the physgun and replacing it with the confusing nature of the gravity gun. Here are my proposed changes to make this event into something we can start using in the rotation again.

    Build Round:
    • Players have access to the Physgun
    • The "height meter" is still in place. Players must get above the minimum height to avoid being damaged by the water. Being in the water zone will be shown in blue on the meter. The safe zone should be marked in green.
    • The "height meter" also has a max ceiling which will be displayed in red on the height meter. Going above this area will cause massive damage to players and props when the battle round begins.
    • All props can be used, however none of the props can float and will sink if they fall down. By removing logic, this will expand on the types of towers that can be built.
    • Players do not have access the the normal weld tool, only the smart weld tool can be used (to avoid staff getting an advantage).
    • Players still have access to the no-clip function.
    • Players can use the rope tool a max of 4 times and can be used on walls and props as a last ditch effort to keep their tower balanced. Ropes are destroyed when the prop they are attached to is destroyed.
    • Players have access to a usable ladder (if such a thing exists). The ladder only has 50 hp but placed correctly could get the player out of a sticky situation.
    Battle Round:
    • Explosions cause a slight push force against props. This along with the chance of unwelding props could unbalance boats and cause them to tip over.
    • The harpoon can be used but only one time. Players can use the harpoon to pull down towers that are not very balanced at the risk of falling off of their tower or pulling their tower down as well.

With these changes, I believe we could bring back the Tower event and have much less confusion on how to build one.

    • So you want to remove the "all props are frozen at the end of build phase" thing? If so, in battle phase, all props will respond to gravity, but not float?
    • Towers are going to be built like an actual tower? Built up from the ground, not a floating pile of props.
    • Will players be able to noclip and hold props with physgun at the same time?

    1. Yes, just change the props floatability to zero so that they will sink.
    2. Yes, players will need to balance their props enough from the ground up. Even in the existing Tower event you have to do that with an exception to those who can use the right click on the weld tool to weld to the wall.
    3. I don't see why not, players should have freedom to be able to build their towers. Currently it's very restrictive and hard to build.

I use the regular weld tool for non-abusive ways on this round, and many other players don't know how to use the smart weld. I suggest that we keep the regular weld tool.

If we keep the weld tool then we need to take of the right click function for it so people cannot build towers welded to the walls.
Yes it does, if you do not weld and someone takes out a prop at the bottom of your tower, the entire tower will fall over. If you weld them all, then they will stay in place. #physicsm8

I personally say we let this event die, as it's still a garbage event that nobody likes. Hell, it isn't even in the random event loop. This event is one of the most boring events no matter how you do it. And this really isn't FLOOD. You're not building a boat, you're building a garbage tower that relates nothing at all back to the gamemode.

Also to note if nothing is frozen, once a SINGLE prop near the bottom is destroyed, there's no way in hell Gmod physics will be able to keep that tower upright, especially if you only have sixteen props and you need to be above water level.

This actually doesn't sound terrible, which is surprising since I hated the original.

I have never player Tower Event, but this seems cool. Maybe we should give it a try.

But I use the right click on the weld so I can spawn a prop at the bottom and put it at the top...

    Not in the original.

Go force an event and don't weld anything.

You're talking about the props freezing which I already said would be taken out. The point is to give people more freedom to build but they have to make a balanced tower that will stay up.

If the props don't freeze, that gamemode WILL NOT work, all you have to do is destroy a prop near the bottom, have an explosion happen anywhere near the bottom, and down goes the whole tower. It doesn't matter how think you make the base, because anything will take it down if it's not frozen, that's just how the source engine works.

Alright I talked to donkie about it too so it seems we will have to leave prop freezing on then if we do this.

I think the props should unfreeze but be up-right as well (similar to the keep upright tooll)
