Hi, me and my girlfriend have played on this server for a while because it's been a fun game to play together.

I've played for about 10 hours in total over a few days and just today I was slain for "skyboating". After an incredibly myopic conversation with admins that did not understand why it was a rule, I was directed here for an proper explanation.

I understand why it's a rule, having a boat that is the height of 20 others is advantageous. But I was slain for something that was literally a half a meter above the water. I used a vending machine to measure the distance even.

Here's a round-about drawing of our "sky boat":

I've followed this design for a good while, as it dates back to about 3 years ago when I played on another community's server (interesting game mode folder name by the way!)

Could I please have an explanation to what exactly is and is not allowed?

I will post a screen shot of your boat later. :)

I said that it was unfair for you to have a height advantage, giving you a wider field of view. It is not allowed because back when there were not prop limits, you could have intensely OP boats that would fly around the sky, giving a heavy advantage to that user. Boats that are above the water level are forbidden because if you start with something simple and it goes unchecked it will go father and farther. Props that are not directly attached to other props are not allowed because they also give an unfair advantage in wide spread stabilization, and it is hard to judge what is part of your boat. Boats that include props above the water and with wide distances are a starting point, which may further into more harmful skyboats. That is why it must be acted upon quickly.

Basically skyboats are really OP and small infractions of the rule must be dealt with before it gets worse, but since I am only a Jr. Mod who is newer to devinity, One of the founders or long term staff may have a better explanation, especially after they see the screenshot of your boat.

I am sorry I could not explain it as well in game, but it is hard to explain all that, which i did attempt to explain, when so many people are talking and need moderation.

The rule states I can not have props "suspended", having props that are disconnected from others is not listed anywhere.

Stabilization wise, there's no difference in the elevation of the center prop that I was slain for having.

Having props disconnected from each other is actually the same exact concept as 'suspending' them, otherwise known as skyboating.

I'd reword your rule then, because it's ambiguous and vague.

Or maybe you're just illiterate, because that definition matches the design of any boat with disconnected props.

A very small amount of people have issues understanding our rules and even fewer decide to argue their validity. I would suggest just taking our rules as is and respect them because we have them in place for certain reasons.

"// how about this I really admire your optimism but the fact of the matter is we don't allow these kinds of boats for previously stated reasons. Its nothing personal I assure you. We also try to be as vague as we can with the rules. This both gives a bit of slack to the players and keeps our MOTD short, because honestly nobody wants to read a 300 paragraph MOTD.

Anybody have this guys Steam profile or ID? I'd prefer to ban him from our servers for rubbing me the wrong way.

Thanks champ. I won't be too harsh on his server ban, but he won't be back to our forum for another month.
