This thread is dedicated to helping players learn how to use the demo feature in GMOD. There's many reasons you would want to use the demo feature over free screen recording software. Benefits include (but are not limited to) Compressed filesize Ability for admins to use the gmod console when viewing your report Ability to spectate/freecam from player perspective Fix clientside graphical bugs And more! To begin recording a demo you must first bind it to a key. Go to "Options" Under the "Keyboard" tab, click Start/Stop recording a demo Assign a key you don't use very often. I choose to use "=" Spoiler: Click to see photos And you're done! Just press the key you bound while ingame to start/stop recording! "I recorded a demo. Now what?" (Now that you have a demo recorded. You will want to upload it to your favorite filesharing website and share it with us. I will be using mediafire for this part of the tutorial). At the GMOD Main menu click the "Demos" or navigate to your demos folder - (C:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\garrysmod\garrysmod\demos) Find your demo (They all have timestamps as filenames. IE: fm_buildaboat_canal_b12wn 2015-9-13 15-22-03.dem) Go to https://www.mediafire.com (Sign up if you don't have an account) Click upload Click your demo file (NOT the thumbnail) When it is finished uploading, you will need to copy the "Share" link. (Make sure it is accessible to everyone) Last step! Paste it into your player report Spoiler: Click here to see photos Thats it guys! I hope this thread helped! If you have any suggestions for modifications please let me know and if I feel they're more helpful than what I have I'll consider adding them! Thanks! Jeff
Way easier than the other "How to record videos" tutorial, now I feel like the script I suggested isn't needed anymore. Thank you (I also didn't knew we were allowed to use Demos as proof, may aswell state that on the ban request page)
why not use the thing that says Start/Stop recording a video which is directly under the demo one. and also does it record sound?
You can use record and stop command but, in the case you need to start recording "urgently". Its a bit easier to have it bound to a hotkey. Yes it does record sound as well as console commands that you input.
It outputs a thumbnail and a .dem file. The .dem file is your demo and is only viewable using the gmod demo option.
