As many of you have heard, a highly destructive hurricane dubbed "Irma" is sweeping the coasts, and wreaking havoc along the path. I'm posting this thread to encourage discussion regarding the storm, and to see how many of our community members may be affected.
I have a close friend in the Miami area and another over there in Florida, so I've been trying to keep in touch with them and make sure they're okay. I second what Jeffrey said.
The whole western hemisphere is going to explode. Forest Fires, Earthquakes, 3 Hurricanes like dude that's gonna hurt like a buttcheek on a stick. Everyone, head to the east. To be serious, hurricane Irma might hit where family friends live and they don't seem to be evacuating. I wish them well and everyone in Puerto Rico who have been hit already.
I also have family in Florida that are ignoring the mandatory evacuation. Heart out to anyone else with family in the danger zone.
For most coastal cities the damage tends to be wind damage, not flooding, so staying isn't that bad. Also, when I stay for hurricanes it's to protect my shit from looters.
My uncle in Florida has been through a few hurricanes, and simply has confidence it won't affect him. My mom in South Carolina on the other hand wouldn't have transportation or finances to leave even if she did take it seriously. I guess there's a handful of reasons for people to stay and hope for the best.
Ah I see your point. Yeah the situation must really suck for some of you over there. Especially to have two major hurricanes hit you at the same time.
