This issue posted prior to github and built upon this thread. First time around, the welfare system was designed to help struggling players, but we placed restrictions to it to avoid the abuse of it. Then the entire system got removed in favor of free props. Several issues I have about free props is that it limits the freedom and creativity for players is and should be only designed for struggling players, not veterans 'veteran or skilled' players are taking advantage of this "system" to gain even more profit off of others which is unfair play and hurts our economy and revenue (players buying more tokens) is unreliable. With increasing concerns and issues, I decided to completely remove them from the prop config table. It demotivates the players to be creative and/or build a fairly large boat for it to get completely mowed down by players near you who are using free props. What I've proposed for the welfare system via this github issue is to Remove the cooldown Give players a $2000 welfare check instead of $5000 (which is the normal amount) if they have less than $1000 on their wallet. Add buying/selling restrictions except for weapons and the store (when buying cosmetics). Restrict players from giving money and purchasing or selling tokens for a brief period of time. In addition of the 24hr cooldown of the welfare system, it combats players who are exploiting it, but it also hurts the players that are actually struggling and using it legitimately. The welfare system still kept the creativity going which is something we should always encourage. But players can always resort to building a 2 prop boat which is equivalently the same. ---------------------------------------------------- New players can't play because they need money to build or buy new weapons, and they lose all of their cash pretty quickly. Donkie said that money shouldn't be a requirement to play. Other methods can be approached to help solve this issue without free props and the welfare system. There are a few ways to solve this issue: Increase money gain on round participation (currently, you gain $9/second) Encourage more teamplay Add back, the free props—but with players that wants to spend money on props since they will always be a better choice. ??? Is there any other methods that can be used to combat this issue? Or should we add back the welfare system, free props, etc.
I already proposed one alternative on this topic here: https://devinity.org/threads/a-fruits-ideas.5197/ The only one who talked about it was Cozy, i guess you all noped out when you saw the mathematics XD
There is a proposal. In the first return free props. In the second give for their attack 0 $ (Well, a maximum of $ 1). As stated above, "Increase money gain on round participation (currently, you gain $ 9 / second)". If you raise this bonus, for example, up to $ 15, you can make a system that reduces this bonus depending on the delivered free props . That is, 1 player can make 16 props as a whole, and if I'm not mistaken, earlier it was possible to make a completely free ship from these 16 propes, so, you can take it away from the bonus (for example I took 15), and take 1 from it, that is for example for every 4 props, this bonus will decrease to 14, 13 , etc. Such a thing will work throughout the round, even if you have already broken these props. And so generalize: following everything above "Veterans and hardcore players" will not be able to receive money for breaking these props, but players who put free props will not be in big favor, because they lose revenue per second.
The new players just get wrecked by SMG nades and sticky TNT, so they don't actually last long enough to get any money. The meta is to make multiple small boats and the new players don't know this. The new players make a big/medium sized boats which become a target for everyone's explosives so that they can make as much money as much as possible. Less explosives = boats lasting longer = more money to be made from staying alive. Further adjusting money given for being alive and welfare would just be handing out money.
Well most newbies don't know how or what to do. in fact, people occasionally type !shop into the chat thinking it would do something. my proposal would be to add a tutorial (in the form of what everyone agrees on) the game as well as better descriptions to weapons and props. hell maybe even suggestions for boat ideas alternatively we could add a debt system and restrict free props to those that are in debt. or that people in debt can use any props for free until they have enough money to support themselves again. and restrict all other purchases outside of props like weapons and tokens so that people won't abuse the system for ill gotten gains. how much money is enough would be voted upon by us
Maybe give players some other ways to earn money, besides killing eachother? While the build phase ticks over, they can get some small amounts of cash for a small boat by... idunno... fishing, playing some minigame or something of that sort.
Bring back free props and either only make them available to people with less than 2 hours playtime, or limit them to be useful, but not useful enough to where "advanced" players abuse the shit out of them. They were fine before besides the fact they were too good for people who knew what they were doing, nerf the sticky tnt because it does ridiculous damage on direct impact and make it so there's a 10-15 second cool down on firing an smg grenade/any other type of explosive (?). Additionally, a guide can be made with a step by step video tutorial that pops up when !help is typed (or something alike).
Give welfare a cap per player, IE 100k. If the player recieves that amount in total, they will no longer receive welfare. At that point it would be fair to say that a player shouldn't deserve anymore free cash #1 because that is a lot of cash and #2 at this point they should be skilled enough to figure out how to earn cash themselves. We should also warn players with a popup when they are running low on welfare funds: 25% given: You have been given a total of $25,000 cash from welfare. After $100,000 you lose total benefits. Tip: Try not to overspend! Build cheap. 65% given: You have been given a total of $65,000 cash from welfare. If you keep overspending, you'll go broke! 85% given: You have been given a total of $65,000 cash from welfare. The bank is going broke, we won't be able to support you much longer! 100% given: Your welfare benefits have expired. If you go entirely broke, please seek help @ Devinity.org
