We need to apply more regulations that will mitigate "lemming incidents" concerning staff applications. Many users apply in mere hours after setting foot in the servers, only to be rejected due to lacking competence, maturity, trustworthiness, etc. Consider the following prerequisites that can be enforced:

    (1) Generate thirty (30) non-Off Topic-related posts on Devinity.

    (2) Have at least one recorded login to Teamspeak

    (3) Acquire recommendations from at least two (2) moderators or above.

    (4) Log in time for the following:
    • A week or more on the forums after signing up.
    • 24 hours (1 day) on the Flood servers.

I'd keep it at a 1 day minimum play time, and that many recomendations... thats a lot.

Holy shit yes. I could have sworn Donkie said he was implementing stuff like this after it was mentioned in another thread in mod forums, what the hell happened to that?

I can't agree anymore with this thread, we don't need 50 staff applications at once from people who barely even know the community.

I believe we should limit the amount of applicants we have right now. Even though ~35% of the junior moderators are barely active, I feel like we should keep a balance of 8-12 of them.

I have actually wanted to bring up this issue for a very long time, and seeing someone finally bringing it up in the General Discussions makes me feel compelled to leave my input on this issue.

I am in full support for the implementation of staff application requirements except for the third point (staff recommendations). From the looks of it, the standard for staff recommendations is way too high and can be exploitable by some applicants whenever necessary. Having 2 Moderators' and 1 Admin's approval would be difficult to accomplish for some players living in different time-zones since from my perspective (GMT +8 - Singapore), there is literally no staff members online during this period of time. We have way too many US staff members and as a result, players living in Asia will have to stay up extremely late just to seek the approval of a few staff members. This will have long-term consequences though, as the lack of staff members from a variety of timezones would mean that there will be a black hole in staff moderation in certain timings around the world. This can prove to be disastrous as ban requests and calls for assistance will take an extremely long time for staff members to respond, which could mean inefficiency in the staff administration. We definitely need to increase the variety of staff members from different parts of the world if we want to resolve this problem, and what I would suggest is to lower the staff requirement to simply two Moderators' and above approval. This should at least make it manageable for everyone around the world to have an opportunity to apply for staff if they want to help the community.

Furthermore, I don't really see the point of having five regular forum members as part of the staff recommendations. This part is exploitable at its best, especially when the applicant can call on other members to support him / her. Staff recommendations should only be limited to staff members only, as I don't see any benefit in allowing forum members to participate in the staff application. What is the point of having 5 forum members' approval when the applicant can easily get his friends to support him?

Nah, I disagree on your opinion with regards to the limiting of staff applicants. What we really want in this community is quality, and to limit the number of applicants coming in could ruin the chances of us finding a potential applicant who can act responsibly in various situations. We should never close our doors to those who are willing to help us, especially if they can prove to a valuable asset to the community.

Ehh, it was brought up before by Decap last August. There were some interesting points being raised in the discussion with regards to staff requirements, but I think the part of staff recommendations didn't really go through after a while. Anyway, here is the link to the thread.

There is already a hardcoded playtime limit to even make a staffapp. I could add a automatic post-count checking aswell, but I can't really make anything else automatic. The Teamspeak server isn't integrated at all with the rest of our systems, and how would I check recommendations automatically?

    Edit:
I just added post-count limit, you now need:
    • 12 hours playtime
    • 10 non-offtopic posts
    to make a staff app.

TeamSpeak automation isn't really that important, we just need to ensure that staff members know that the applicant visits the TeamSpeak regularly at times. Furthermore, we don't really need an automatic system for staff recommendations. Applicants can sometimes falsely lie on who referenced them to become staff, and it should be up to the referred staff member to check whether is his recommendation genunine or not.

Can we bump the 10 non-offtopic posts? To really see who someone is I liked Dawson's idea of like 30 posts.

Donkie is way too lenient and wants to give everyone an opportunity to try for staff. :D

I think it's that he doesn't want to be too strict rather than too lenient.

There is a lot of SpanishSpeakers on the server, and not everyone speak english. I think that the server may have at least one SpanishSpeaker on the server, for, at least say "Go to the forum and read the rules", "You can't do that" and "Only english in global chat". It's more necessary a spanish speaker mod, than a normal one. Thanks (I' argentinian and i speak spanish e.e)

Obviusly, i'm talking about the flood server. It's impossible to have a bilingual jailbreak server.

Can we have a bump on this and have a set time you need on forums before being able to apply? Tired of seeing new people applying. Doesn't have to be long, just significant enough to prevent the crazy influx of apps.

I would suggest 2-3 weeks. That's seriously not a long time at all and if they can't even wait that long, they probably lack the patience required for staff.
