Before the thread begins: RIP Build to the Top. You are always missed even though you were convoluted and buggy. I'm not entirely sure if this idea is all that entertaining or enjoyable but the concept is: once the water rises to max height, all props freeze and the round plays out like normal. That means that boats that are in the process of tipping over stick out like a pyramid that you have to make sure you don't fall off of, you aren't able to turn your boat if one side of shielding is destroyed, props that don't usually float can be used for survival, you can't move closer for a better shot on someone, and unwelding is useless. Conditions: Harpoons are disabled for this round Every player is given a Crossbow† If we were to take the term frozen literally, then all props could also be slippery, and lighting props on fire in this phase could potentially unfreeze them. Maybe just for the round a unique weapon could be introduced that allows you to unfreeze your own props. A torch or something like that. I wouldn't say that we should take it literally, however, because then it wouldn't make sense that props are frozen yet the water isn't. Suggestions or edits are appreciated. †: Given in case someone is unable to hit another's prop. As there's no way to move, long range fights are guaranteed with people on opposite sides of the map. Imagine having to shoot a leek with a USP.
I was thinking, since this event is incorporated with BTTP, the gravity gun could be used to unfreeze props or break the ice coating per-say, but the penalty could be to reduce the prop by a 1/4th of its health and have a cooldown charge timer or something like that.
Interesting. It should probably be just the cooldown timer. I say 30-45 seconds. Boats should be unfrozen by the end of the phase, practically.
I like the props to be frozen literally, maybe give all props an icy blue texture, fire would do double damage and unfreeze them.
I'd also prefer that to be the case (and for the props to be slippery), BUT HOW DO WE EXPLAIN THE WATER NOT BEING FROZEN WHILE THE PROPS ARE?
Icebergs don't freeze saltwater, but the question is: Is the water in the dam saltwater or freshwater? Because in a naturally occurring saltwater ocean, an iceberg is made of freshwater so it's easier for it to freeze than the saltwater because it's not full of salt molecules. What does the iceberg have to do with props being frozen, however?
WELL IF THERE'S NO ROOM FOR LOGIC HOW COME THE 1 TONS AND THE LOCKERS DON'T FLOAT HUH Alright, alright. Whatever makes the event more fun, I suppose.
I'd like to say that it was removed because it wasn't really Flood-related. It was kind of just like build a tall fort. It's not really a boat. Plus there was an exploit that let you place all your props together rather than make a tower like you're supposed to. Combine this exploit with noclip being enabled and you have a round that's really annoying to play. Also, it encouraged using only heavy, high health props rather than the traditional style. With this event, you need to make sure your boat floats all the way until the water rises to be able to take advantage of props like that.
BTTP had many issues surrounding it—one of which @Noriaki Cocaine explained, so Donkie just got rid of the entire event in general. It may or may not come back in the future, fingers crossed though I enjoyed the event as well as it reminded me of the puzzle servers on HL2: DM
